A couple years ago, Ferrari shocked the world when they announced that they were going to release their first-ever production four-door vehicle. Now that they’ve officially joined the world of super-luxury performance SUVs, many enthusiasts are wondering how the Purosangue compares to others, and which is the best overall.
In that spirit, we’ve decided to see how it stacks up against one of our most popular models. Here’s our ultimate luxury SUV comparison of the Ferrari Purosangue vs. Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
Cullinan vs. Purosangue: Customization
For many of our clients, the process of purchasing their own Rolls-Royce begins with customizing their own model.
Rolls-Royce is famous for creating bespoke vehicles that reflect the owner’s unique style and personality. Every inch of the Cullinan—from the upholstery fabric and stitching to the wood veneer to the exterior paint—is painstakingly crafted to match the buyer’s exact specifications, and a team of advisors at our dealership in Miami and the factory in Goodwood continuously work with our commissioners to ensure that the final product is everything they dreamed of.
It isn’t just about the aesthetics, though. Cullinan buyers will also have the opportunity to add in functional changes like rear seat entertainment systems, smoker’s accessories, and even a rear viewing suite that deploys from the back hatch.
Ferrari also offers their own personalization program, which lets their clients make extensive tweaks and alterations to their car’s appearance. However, their vehicles are decidedly less customizable, and Ferrari’s program lacks the depth of features that Rolls-Royce has.
Cullinan vs. Purosangue: Performance
Both SUVs are powered by uncompromisingly powerful V12 engines, but their driving dynamics are quite different.
The Black Badge Cullinan Series II is the more powerful alter ego of the nameplate. It boasts a 6.75-liter V12 under the hood, which generates a formidable 591 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque, but despite its power, the engine is surprisingly quiet by design. It’s married to an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive for exacting performance, and the Cullinan boasts state-of-the-art adaptive air suspension to maintain an incredibly smooth ride for drivers and passengers regardless of road conditions.
Where the Cullinan prioritizes driver comfort and an insulated ride, the Purosangue’s V12 engine roars with 715 horsepower and 528 pound-feet of torque. Everything about the powertrain is designed for hellacious speeds—it can go from 0 to 60 in just 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of over 192 miles per hour. Its body is also considerably more aerodynamic, and suspension and braking are tuned to deliver extreme responsiveness.
So, comparing these two uber SUV’s performance is a bit of an “apples and oranges” situation because they’re both designed to do very different things. The Cullinan is made to embody the signature Rolls-Royce Magic Carpet Ride sensation, whereas the Purosangue is all about track-style precision handling.
Cullinan vs. Purosangue: Interior
With the recent redesign to the Cullinan Series II, Rolls-Royce upgraded the interior and tech features in a big way. The biggest change is that it now features a pillar-to-pillar glass panel in the upper dashboard, which encompasses the driver information and central infotainment displays. It also has the advanced SPIRIT operating system to provide an imminently responsive experience, as well as additional conveniences like Bluetooth headphone pairing with the rear seat entertainment systems and an in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot.
Unfortunately, the Purosangue’s interior falls short in terms of functionality. While it does provide more than ample comfort in all four seats, as well as thoughtful features like a rear center console and 10.25-inch front passenger touch screen, the lack of a central display and the overloaded steering wheel and haptic controls mean that it could take some serious getting used to. The interior is also much smaller than the cavernous Cullinan, making it far less practical as an honest-to-goodness SUV.
