The Rolls-Royce Phantom Waterspeed was inspired by the iconic Bluebird K3 hydroplane, which broke a world record on Lake Maggiore in Italy in 1937. Sir Malcom Campbell used his Bluebird K3 powered by a V12 Rolls-Royce R Engine â€" to attain a speed of 126.33 mph on the lake. It's this act of British daring and sportsmanship that inspired the Phantom Waterspeed collection, which is limited to just 35 motor cars. This benchmark is echoed inside each Phantom Watespeed motorcar, as the times, dates and speeds have been inscribed in the glove box lid, while a clock with infinity symbol and two-tone steering wheel pay homage to the K3 and K4 motorboats.

Every member of the Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection features bespoke elements never before included on a Rolls-Royce motor car. A unique brushed-steel deck and bonnet immediately catch the eye, as does each Phantom Waterspeed model's one-of-a kind Maggiore Blue color, inspired by the lake upon which the Bluebird K3 set a record nearly 80 years ago. It takes Rolls-Royce craftspeople up to 70 hours to shape the deck and bonnet, and another 10 hours of hand-brushing to achieve the perfect finish. Additionally, engravings of a bluebird in flight emphasize the legacy upon which the Phantom Waterspeed line is built.
