The Cullinan—which was first introduced to the world in 2018—is an institution. That may seem like a crazy thing to say about a vehicle that’s only been around for about six years, but if anything, it’s merely a testament to the iconic and uncompromising reputation it’s built up in just a short time. Today, Rolls-Royce says that it’s the most requested luxury vehicle in their catalogue.

The Cullinan is unlike anything else on the road. Its commanding presence fits right in with the metropolitan vibe of other bespoke masterworks like the Ghost, and its deceptively capable design allows it to feel right at home navigating rough terrain in the wilderness.

Now that the Cullinan Series II has officially been unveiled, let’s take a look at what’s changed and what’s remained.

Youthful and Urban Exuberance

The luxury vehicle authorities at Rolls-Royce have noted a decisive trend toward a younger city-dwelling clientele, and they’ve used this information to inform the design of the Cullinan Series II. The imposing vertical lines found throughout the bodywork are meant to call a vast cityscape to mind.

The aesthetic changes to the Cullinan’s exterior are perhaps most apparent when viewing from the front. The headlamps share a general shape and form of the previous iteration, but with the addition of new tall daytime running lights that serve to outline the Series II’s wide-shouldered stance. The pantheon grille remains as recognizable as ever, but for the first time, the Cullinan is optionable with an illuminated grille. Underneath the redesigned bumper, we find new air intakes that further heighten the super-luxury SUV’s bold visage.

Viewed from behind, the Series II gets a fresh exhaust treatment, complete with mirrored stainless steel. The rear valance is also significantly altered.

From the side, the most striking new addition is the seven-spoke 23-inch aluminum wheels—rims this large have previously never been available for the Cullinan, and they lend a decidedly commanding presence to the already formidable model. Other changes to the side profile include a subtle-yet-effective new body line extending to the rear wheel well.

A newly developed paint finish is also available for the first time on a Rolls-Royce. This finish is dubbed Crystal Over, and it’s achieved by suspending glass particles in the lacquer, creating an enchanting sparkle effect.

Advanced Appointments

Even among other luxury brands, Rolls-Royce has always stood out for its seemingly endless selection of ways to customize the vehicle’s interior, and the Cullinan Series II promises to set an even more impressive standard of opulence.

One of the most daring choices made by the design team is the complete reimagining of the dash design. It now features a singular glass panel, which extends almost the full length between the A-pillars and encompasses the infotainment and driver info screens, creating a sense of futuristic cohesion. Thanks to the new SPIRIT operating system, computerized components are now faster and more responsive than ever before. The SPIRIT software also allows access to the member-only application Whispers directly from the customizable center touch screen.

The passenger side of the high-strength glass fascia is illuminated by a captivating cityscape display, which is created using 7,000 laser-etched holes. This design is customizable, and Rolls-Royce diehards will recognize it from other models like the Ghost and Spectre.

Another noteworthy element of the dash design is the new Spirit of Ecstasy Clock Cabinet, a unique and stylish statement that reflects the marque’s long lineage.Rolls%20Royce%20Cullinan%20Series%20II.jpg

Back seat passengers also enjoy advanced connectivity—the Cullinan Series II features two rear screens, which can be connected to two separate devices. The rear screens can also be used in conjunction with the vehicle’s high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot, and they can both be paired with separate Bluetooth headphones, turning the back seat into something of a personal movie theater on wheels.

The first example of Cullinan Series II shown by Rolls-Royce features an interior that’s meant to be reminiscent of nature. The cabin abounds with verdant colors and textures, and also incorporates some brand-new elements, including a new material made form bamboo dubbed Duality Twill.

Return of the Black Badge

With the release of the Spectre and many other luxury marques downsizing their engines, many fans worried that the all-powerful V12 engine would be on the chopping block for the Cullinan Series II. Fret not, because it continues on, and the 6.75-liter monster still boasts the same performance specs of 563 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, guaranteeing the Cullinan is as capable as ever, no matter where you intend to go.

The Cullinan Series II Black Badge will also be available, and will launch simultaneously with the original Cullinan Series II. The Black Badge puts out even more power, totaling a ballistic 591 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. It also features a host of other performance enhancements, including a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox, and the Black Badge gets a host of edition-specific aesthetic touches, as well.
